Collagen type II is a high molecular protein. The filamentous collagen fibers are intertwined with elastin and polysaccharide proteins to form a network structure, which produces a certain mechanical strength.

There are different types of collagen, dozens of which have been discovered. Among them, types Ⅰ and Ⅲ mainly exist in connective tissues such as skin blood vessels; type Ⅱ is mainly produced by chondrocytes and mostly exists in bones, joints, tendons and other tissues; type Ⅶ mainly exists in the uterus and placenta.

Hyaline cartilage (or articular cartilage) is a hard, gel-like substance that covers bones. Its main function is to provide cushioning and reduce friction between bones as they slide past or collide with each other. Type II collagen is the main component of the extracellular matrix of hyaline cartilage, and its synthesis and catabolism are regulated by chondrocytes (cells in the connective tissue of cartilage). The hyaline cartilage in the body has a very special composition. Its main matrix components include:

1. Type II collagen: The main structural component of cartilage, providing structure, hardness and pressure resistance, accounting for 60% of cartilage.

2.Glycosaminoglycans (GAGs): Mainly composed of two components-glycan proteoglycan (a large proteoglycan containing chondroitin sulfate) and hyaluronic acid, both of which are maintenance buffers and an essential component that lubricates the joint environment, allowing easy joint movement, and accounts for approximately 40% of cartilage.
