    What is silymarin?

Silymarin is a natural flavonoid lignan compound, which is a natural active substance extracted from the dried fruits of milk thistle of the Asteraceae family. Silymarin is poorly soluble in water, easily soluble in acetone, ethyl acetate, methanol and ethanol, and slightly soluble in chloroform.
Silymarin is the most effective flavonoid found in the world for liver diseases. It has been recorded in Greek and Roman scriptures as early as the 1st century AD. It is extracted from a plant called milk thistle. Silymarin can stabilize liver cell membranes, maintain the integrity of liver cells, prevent toxins from penetrating and damaging the liver, and accelerate the synthesis of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) in liver cells.

    What are the benefits

    1. Has the inhibitory effect on lipoxygenase and peroxidase
    2. Remove reactive oxygen species
Directly remove reactive oxygen species, resist lipid peroxidation, and maintain cell membrane fluidity.
    3. Hepatoprotective effect
Silymarin has a protective effect against liver damage caused by carbon tetrachloride, galactosamine, alcohols and other hepatotoxins.
    4. Antioxidant
It has powerful antioxidant function and can protect liver cells from free radical damage. Its effectiveness is far better than vitamin E.
    5. Repair
Promote protein synthesis, speed up the production of new liver cells, or allow damaged liver cells to repair themselves
    6. Anti-aging
Silymarin has the effects of anti-radiation, anti-aging, and delaying skin aging.
    7. Protect cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases
Silymarin can improve the body's antioxidant capacity and has a significant protective effect on cerebral ischemia damage.

    Application direction

Currently widely used in health care products, cosmetics field
The efficacy of silymarin is attributed to its multiple sites of action and mechanism of action due to its ability to trap free radicals. Silymarin has anti-peroxidative activity. The pathophysiological process of lipid peroxidation (causing damage to cell membranes) can be blocked or prevented by silymarin. And within liver cells that have suffered damage, silymarin stimulates protein synthesis and normalizes phospholipid metabolism.
In short, the greatest contribution of silymarin is its stabilizing effect on liver cell membranes, which prevents or avoids the loss of soluble cellular components (such as transaminases). Silymarin can limit the penetration of certain hepatotoxic substances (such as α-amanitin) into cells. The enhancement of protein synthesis capacity is due to silymarin stimulating the activity of RNA polymerase I in the nucleus, thus helping the synthesis of ribosomal RNA in liver cells, while leading to the massive synthesis of structural and functional proteins (enzymes). Therefore, silymarin can enhance the repair and regeneration capabilities of liver cells.
